Torment reaches its goal in only a few hours, proves that Kickstarter + nostalgia = lots of money

A few hours ago I reported on inXile being the first to potentially crowdfund two games on Kickstarter. Potentially at the time because the project still needed a few hundred thousand dollars to go. After I returned from my lunch break, the project increased a full $400,000 and needed only a $100,000 to go.

Looks like inXile has proven once again that Kickstarter works wonders when bundled with the promise of nostalgia. Both Wasteland and Planescape: Torment were amazing RPGs, lauded by fans as one of the best RPG experiences. While sales for Planescape weren't necessarily great, both these games have gotten amazing cult following and are still remembered very fondly.

The fact that this Kickstarter finished just mere hours after it was set live just proves that appealing to people's nostalgia is almost the sure fire way to go on Kickstarter, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

While this will surely inspire many others to look to Kickstarter for crowdfunding, it's important to keep in mind that not everything on there is a sure fire winner. Just ask the Project Awakened guys. Sorry dudes!
