Total War: Rome 2, a sequel to SEGA's multi award-winning Total War series, is coming to PC next year. As expected, SEGA confirmed the 2013 release for the PC strategy game which will combine the "most expansive turn-based campaign and the largest, most cinematic real-time battles yet seen in any game".
“Our games have always encompassed a grand vision,” said creative director Mike Simpson. “But we’re now pushing that vision at both ends of the spectrum. From the immense reach of the sandbox campaign right down to the human-level drama of a single warrior on the battlefield, we’re aiming for an unprecedented level of detail and scale”.
“In our 25th year of games development, it feels fitting to return to our most critically acclaimed era,” continued brand director Rob Bartholomew. “There’s been a multi-generational leap in technology since the original game and we are ready to set another benchmark in gaming.”
As with the previous titles in the Total War franchise, players will have to dominate their enemies through whatever military, economic, and political means necessary. From the description, it sounds like Rome 2 will be filled with the drama of betrayal and loyalty. You'll have to deal with Rome's dangerous senate plots.
In addition to the Game of Thrones-like drama, Rome 2 will take the mix of real-time and turn-based gameplay "to new heights". With an all-new graphics engine, you will get to see colossal sized armies rendered in incredible detail as the cinematic battles unfold. Thanks to new cameras, you can enjoy the battle from every perspective.
Total War: Rome 2 is set to release sometime in 2013. Before you go rush out and buy a new PC, developer The Creative Assembly has said the game will be a "completely scalable experience". In the meantime, check out how it could look if you have a high-end PC in the screenshots above.
