The Overwatch victory pose that somehow got controversial will be changed and the Blizzard has revealed what pose Tracer will do instead of the Butt Pose. The new pose, as seen above, has Tracer's back facing us at a 3/4 view.
This isn't the first case where character in video games has been accused of being overly sexualized, certainly not the first time in the past few months. The JRPG Star Ocean 5 changed a few things to avoid angry internet people, Capcom removed a certain feature, Black Dessert Online started making fun of Blizzard for the removal of the butt pose, and now it seems like this particular controversy has ended.
It started about a week ago when some people in the Overwatch community got mad at a victory pose for the character Tracer, claiming that it was overly sexualized. Blizzard listened to the complaints and created a new victory pose for her that hopefully won't get people mad.
Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan said this about the pose "We'll replace the pose. We want *everyone* to feel strong and heroic in our community. The last thing we want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable, under-appreciated or misrepresented."
Apparently the pose for Tracer was something the Overwatch team had discussed internally on whether or not to have and Kaplan credits the beta players for pointing it out and helping them make the final decision on the pose "We weren’t entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively.
"That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision but it wasn’t the only factor". So for the people who worry that Blizzard gave after for the pressure from loud minorities, you can all relax. This pose was already in debate at Blizzard and the fact that the community had some issues with it made the final decision easier for them.
Besides, it was during the beta period, a time when the game changes and doesn't necessarily reflect the final product. Kaplan is also sure that people will enjoy the game just as much without the pose "This was the right call from our perspective, and we think the game will be just as fun the next time you play it".
In other Tracer news, starting April 19 she will be the first playable Overwatch character in Heroes of the Storm.
