Trails in the Sky Second Chapter won’t get a physical release — too ‘risky,’ says Xseed

In September, publisher Xseed Games promised fans of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky that the role-playing game's sequel, Second Chapter, would finally come to North America, satisfying their curiosity about the story's cliffhanger. But don't expect to add a copy to your physical collection.

“Sorry, but that’s just not in the cards for this title," Xseed told a fan on its Facebook page recently, confirming that the release is digital only. "Releasing a PSP game in mid-2014 even as a download-only title was risky enough as it was, since from a business perspective doing PC only was the smarter move, but [we] still [got] a PSP release approved somehow so that we didn’t leave the original supporters of the first game on PSP hanging.”

Trails in the Sky SC is scheduled to release for PC and PSP next year. Xseed is also rereleasing the original title on PC this winter.

We've seen this issue happen before with Capcom's digital-only release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Dual Destinies.

"We worked very hard to ensure a Western release on this title," former Capcom senior vice president Christian Svensson wrote previously. "If we'd said 'no, it's not coming,' it would have triggered the inevitable 'please bring it to eShop, at least' cries. Instead we shortcutted that and brought it straight to eShop."
