Let's face it, if we're going to be brutally honest, we haven't really got a decent DBZ game since Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Hell, Burst Limit was a neat idea, shot down by the fact that there were very little characters, and it didn't feature the full anime sagas. I don't even want to talk about the horrid rock/paper/scissors mechanic of Ultimate Tenkaichi.
Maybe Namco Bandai is listening, and just maybe, Battle of Z will be DBZ's return to form. While this short trailer doesn't do much to explain the game's mechanics, it does seem to focus heavily on multiple character gameplay, high speed action, and of course, all your favorite DBZ characters.
Players will now be able to form teams of four DBZ characters for either co-op or competitive play, which should certainly increase the mayhem on screen.
We also get a very short glimpse at the beginning of that video, of Goku free-flying in an environment, meaning the game could have some RPG exploration gameplay? We've seen this done before with Budokai 3, though it didn't serve much purpose outside of moving from battle to battle, and occasionally finding a Dragon Ball.
At the very end, for those that keep up with DBZ culture, we get a short still of Goku in his Super Saiyan God form, the latest form transcending any other previous Super Saiyan level, introduced by the latest movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
No details were given regarding a release date, though I'm predicting this game to start showing up around the holiday season. Right now it's slated for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, which means those looking forward to a next-gen DBZ game will most likely have to wait until next year.
