Transformers Bumblebee spin-off gets Oscar nominated director

Last year we learned that the massive Transformers movie franchise will be expanding beyond just mainline entries in the battle for Earth. After Transformers: The Last Knight releases later this year, Paramount will begin production on the next film which will be a spin-off centered around the beloved Bumblebee Transformer.

The film will be helmed by director Travis Knight which will make it the second film he's ever director, following his directorial debut on Kubo and the Two Strings which was nominated for an Oscar! Despite Transfomers being a massive mishmash of special effects and explosions, Knight and Paramount will make the Bumblebee with a smaller budget than the main entries in the series.

"There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies," Former Paramount boss Brad Grey told The Hollywood Reporter. "We will make the next movie with Michael [Bay] and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost."

Are you excited for a new Transformers movie that branches off from the rest of the series or would you rather the series be put to rest? Let us know in the comments below!
