Publishing giant Take-Two has trademarked "GTA TV" and "Rockstar TV", prompting speculation that the Rockstar parent company is planning an extensive transmedia promotion for upcoming game Grand Theft Auto 5.
Originally reported by OXM, the trademarks mention "computer game programs and software; animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes; pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes."
Such a wide range of topics could lead to endless possibilities in terms of transmedia tie-ins for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5. Are we looking at some sort of GTA-themed TV programming leading up to the game's release? Or maybe it's a promotional web series? We won't know for sure until Rockstar or Take-Two decides to spill the beans.
We haven't heard much about Grand Theft Auto 5 since its unveiling back in November, but earlier this month, Take-Two said that GTA 5 is "making great progress" and that we can expect to hear more about the game "in a few months".
I say look to E3 2012 for more info about GTA 5 and maybe an unveiling of the new transmedia promos.
