Treehouse of Horror update available for The Simpsons: Tapped Out

A spooky content update has arrived for the mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out.

The iOS version received a Treehouse of Horror update recently that's based on the television show's long-running Halloween special. Electronic Arts worked with the show's writers and artists to bring an authentic feel to characters like Devil Flanders and Marge the Witch, along with locations like the Springfield Cemetery. They also added new quests.

Tapped Out debuted in March and temporarily dropped from the App Store shortly therafter due to server overload — not a terrible problem to have when you're hoping your iOS game will be popular. EA announced the game's return at Gamescom in August.

On October 10, Fox will air the latest in the show's series of horror episodes, "Treehouse of Horror XXIII." Players can answer a trivia question in the game by watching the show, which unlocks a new costume for Homer and a box of doughnuts.
