Trekkies, Changes to Star Trek Online

Are you a Trekkie?  Did you ever try the MMO Star Trek Online?  No, did you want too?  If this is you, the good news is that January 21st the game is transforming into a free-to-play model.  This model will be backed with micro transactions though so there will STILL be ways to give them your money if you must.  This announcement occurred today on the Star Trek Online blog, quoted by producer Stephen D’Angelo.

To reward those faithful Trekkies, Perfect World is granting 400 free Cryptic Points each month starting December 1st.  These points work as the micro transaction currency and will be distributed a year after the subscription is created.  Will this change help the MMO or is it already too late?
