On October 7, 2013 we were informed by the Sleeping Dogs developers, United Front Games, that they were back in cahoots with Square Enix and working on a game based in the Sleeping Dogs universe.
Don't get ahead of yourself, it's not Sleeping Dogs 2 – in fact, United Front isn't even working on that game. It's all about Triad Wars now. The game will offer a fresh take on the Sleeping Dogs universe, but will still be as exciting. Triad Wars will be taking the action mechanics from Sleeping Dogs but will mix in "strategy based empire building components."
The game itself is online only, but is not considered an MMO by the developers – while you do play against other players, it's set in an asynchronous world, meaning you're battling player data as opposed to players themselves (if United Front is going off of the typical usage of asynchronous).
There's still a lot to learn about Triad Wars, but you can head over to their AMA on Reddit for more info or sign up for the closed beta right here. The video above offers some details from the devs themselves.
Here's how United Front describes the game on their website:
Set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong & Sleeping Dogs universe, Triad Wars is an online open-world action adventure PC game where you rise to power as a criminal kingpin of the Triad underworld. Experience the unrivaled combination of fighting, shooting & driving or succeed through strategy via extortion, hacking & money laundering – It’s your city to claim & how you do it is entirely up to you.
