Trine developers working on new stealth game, Shadwen

Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.

Thief is languishing at the bottom of clearance bins and other than soft pitch Assassin’s Creed Unity and its surprisingly decent follow up Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the stealth genre has had some pretty slim pickings on the current generation of consoles.

With Dishonored 2 still not out until sometime next year, fans of the gaming style might have another one to look forward to. The developers of Shadowgrounds and Trine, Frozenbyte, is working on Shadwen, set to be a call back the old school challenge of the traditional stealth game, Shadwen follows an assassin and his choices under the witness of a little girl whose presence will influence the choices you make.

Via PCGamer, Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvärinen the same critiques of the genre as it currently stands, "The stealth genre has been in a slump for years. Guns blazing and invincible heroes is not stealth…Shadwen will bring the genre back to its roots, with sneaking and hiding [as] the main course of action. We will also explore the moral consequences of killing through our characters."

Shadwen will also feature a time manipulation mechanic, something we’ve been seeing crop up lately with games like Remember Me and the upcoming Quantum Break. While the game is still in development, it’s slated to join Dishonored 2 in a vague 2016 release.
