Twilight studios issue response to tragic Comic-Con death

Twilight studios Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate have released a join statement following the death of a 53-year old woman, and fan of the Twilight franchise, who was struck by a car and killed at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego yesterday.

"Lionsgate, Summit and the entire Twilight community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year's convention in San Diego," the statement read. "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H."

The victim, Gisela Gagliardi, was reportedly waiting in line to see some of her favorite actors from the Twilight film when she was hit by the car. She was said to be profusely bleeding from a serious head injury and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died. The 67-year-old female driver who hit her cooperated with investigators and will not be cited, authorities said, according to the Daily Mail.

The Twilight panel will being at 12:45 pm on Thursday, but it is not known if the death will be mentioned. A fan-generated Twitter tag has been created (#RIPTwiFanG) and fans have requested a moment of silence to be observed for the victim. Actor Robert Pattinson (Team Edward) is expected to be there along with director Bill Condon.

It's sad Comic-Con, such a fun event where people gather from all over to celebrate everything nerdy, shrouded by such a horrific event. GameZone expresses our condolences to Gagliari and her family. We wish for everybody in attendance to have a fun time, but please remember that safety should be the primary concern. It's ok to be excited for something, but remember to be safe.
