Twisted Metal Delayed Until 2012

Like many of you, my intentions for early October were to let loose with the new Twisted Metal game for PlayStation 3. The eerie car combat title seemed like a perfect fit for the fall season, and I was incredibly stoked to wreak havoc in dingy locales and cause massive explosions as I battled other maniacs. Unfortunately, those of us who were eagerly anticipating the October 4 launch of Twisted Metal are going to have to wait a little longer. OK, we’re going to have wait quite a while longer.

On the official PlayStation Blog, Twisted Metal creator and Eat Sleep Play founder David Jaffe revealed that the upcoming car combat game will not meet its October launch date. Instead, the game will be released sometime in early 2012. Normally, this is the type of situation that causes a collective groan among the gaming community, but as much as I wish I could play Twisted Metal this October, I always look on the bright side of a delay.

According to Jaffe, we should all be happy that the game is being delayed, because this extra development time is going to give Eat Sleep Play the appropriate means to make what Jaffe considers an excellent game even better. “Now, if we shipped Twisted Metal tomorrow–going off the response from folks who have played it–I assure you, it would never be a bad game,” stated Jaffe. “Not even close. But we’re aiming for a heck of a lot more than that! With Twisted Metal, we plan to ship a multiplayer classic.”

OK, so who else just got more stoked about Twisted Metal? It’s good to know that Eat Sleep Play wants to create an incredible car combat game, and if they need some extra time to iron out any wrinkles and add an extra dose of awesome sauce to the package, I’ll patiently wait until 2012 comes around. Who’s with me?
