Twitch will soon be selling games with a cut going to the streamers

Twitch has been owned by Amazon for about two and a half years now, and gradually we have seen a few crossovers start to become more prominent on the game streaming website. The most notable of these is, of course, Twitch Prime which grants Amazon Prime users additional benefits on the site. Things are about to be taken to the next level as Twitch announced today that beginning in Spring 2017, users will be able to purchase games directly from the website with 5% of the profits going towards the streamer you are watching.

How it will work is that when you go to watch a stream, a button prompt will appear below the video window that will let you buy the game that the streamer is currently playing via an Amazon account. If that streamer is an official Twitch partner, they will be eligible for the 5% cut. Note that if they aren't a partner, you will still have the option to buy the game that the streamer is playing, but nothing will go to the streamer.

On top of that, any purchase you make that is $4.99 or more will come with a Twitch Crate that will be packed with a special reward in the form of either a game-specific emote, a chat badge, or a few Bits. Twitch Crates are randomly generated so they are a surprise every time.

There is currently no release date on when Twitch will start selling games, only the release window of Spring 2017, so stay tuned for more details shortly.
