Ubisoft focusing on Assassin’s Creed Origins instead of new one

Does that mean they are going to skip out on a 2018 release?

Recent rumors suggested that the code name for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game leaked. Ubisoft, however, is saying that they are focusing on Assassin’s Creed Origins ‘at the moment.’

According to Ubisoft, upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins DLC will “amaze” players. Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot was asked if Ubisoft would return to annual releases for Assassin’s Creed during a recent earnings call.

In Guillemot’s reply, he suggested that the studio is focusing on Assassin’s Creed Origins.

“We are concentrating at the moment on Assassin’s Creed Origins, for which we are going to launch a few other DLCs. So you will be amazed by what will come on Assassin’s Creed Origins. That’s the only thing we can say now.”

Guillemot went on to say the Origins is performing better than previous entries in the franchise and it’s due to the studio slowing down production and taking their time to polish games.

“With more time to polish our games, we have been able to release three high-quality titles since August […] We have fully embraced the significant increase in resources required to develop ever-bigger games.”

In February 2016, Ubisoft announced that they would be breaking away from the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s annual release and that the series would only return when it was ‘ready’ to do so.

Ubisoft appears to have learned what extra time to polish can do for a game. Back in December 2017, the game developer delayed a number of upcoming titles (The Crew 2, Far Cry 5, and an unannounced game) to allow the development team more time.
