Ubisoft is not working on an Assassin’s Creed VR game despite leaked images

Some images started popping this morning showing a menu screen of an Assassin's Creed VR game. People started wildly speculating on what this could be exactly. Is it just a short 1-2 hour VR experience or is the next game going to have a fully fleshed out VR mode? Turns out it's neither.

The VR "game" is actually just something Ubisoft has created to experiment with VR and it won't be released to the public. The game is called "Assassin's Creed: Da Vinci's Workshop and is being created with NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences students, most likely to teach aspiring developers how developing for VR works. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Ubisoft is, however, working on a brand new Assassin's Creed game after taking a year off. The studio decided they needed to slow down on releasing games in the hit third-person action game series after sales started to lower, the critical reception began to be slightly negative, and players began to get annoyed by buggy releases.

The game is expected to release this year, but Ubisoft says they'll take as long as they need to in order to ensure that it's up to par with their standards.
