Ubisoft planning Alpha and Beta testing for The Division

In order to ensure their product is the best it can be, Ubisoft will be holding Alpha and Beta tests for Tom Clancy's The Division. This news comes from Ubisoft earnings call last night, which also revealed a 2016 release date for The Division and another currently-unannounced game.

The concept of an Alpha test for The Division is not a surprise considering that a leak in March suggested it. The HTML5 code for The Division's official site held the information of an "Alpha" tab to be added to the sites navigation bar.

Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot spoke on the call and informed listeners that because The Division is "an RPG online game. Those games take more time to be completed and we want to make sure we have enough feedback from consumers from alpha and betas to polish it as much as possible before the launch so that it comes to the market with the best experience possible."

When we will be seeing the Alpha or Beta launch is still a mystery. The game was initially said to release in 2014, then assumed to launch in 2015 and now we are looking at a release anywhere from January to March 2016. The testing could fall anywhere towards the end of this year to March of next year.
