Ubisoft Relieved At Red Dead Redemption 2 Delay

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed to 2018 and Ubisoft couldn't be happier. It's not that Ubisoft is happy about a competitor's misfortune, but more so acknowledging tough competition where credit is due. Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez speaks up about Rockstar's delay.

"Clearly the fact that there is no Red Dead Redemption [2] is a positive for our fiscal year 2018," he stated in the latest Ubisoft earnings call, "This is something that we had taken into our [financial] assumptions. So the absence of that game is, of course, giving us a better window for the launch of some of our games."

Along with this call came the expectation of a 34 percent jump in Q2 sales. The expectation lies with the launch of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom BattleDLC for For Honor and the new Hong Kong expansion for Rainbow Six Siege.

Martinez did batten down his expectations, however, stating, "Overall we think it's [too] early to have a view and change anything," he said. "… we have more confidence but we think it's too early to change our guidance."

Ubisoft also has Assassin's Creed: Origins prepped for launch on October 27 and South Park: The Fractured But Whole on October 17.
