Leave it to the masters of leaking Ubisoft to once again unveil secret projects accidentally. This time, it is the Russian Uplay store that briefly displayed banners for a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. You can see the brief animated banner in the Tweet linked below.

The Prince of Persia franchise has been unceremoniously laid to rest an entire decade ago. A shame for what was once regarded as one of the biggest adventure-platformers ever. In its heydays, the series was shoulder-to-shoulder to the Tomb Raider franchise even.
The last main entry in the series was 2010’s Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. A title that would unintendedly prophesize the series’ future. Although Ubisoft never said that Prince of Persia was dead, no new announcements or releases painted a different picture.
One where the publisher showed by inaction that they didn’t see any demand for its return. To be fair, the series’ creator openly shared his opinions on the matter, wishing to revive the franchise.
On the other hand, it’s widely known that prototyped on Prince of Persia titles led to the creation of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The similarities of parkour & platforming in historic settings aren’t a coincidence.
In that regard, it makes more sense to not cannibalize your premier franchise with a lesser, similar one. Still, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has long transitioned into the RPG genre. Maybe it’s those trends with AC games that give Prince of Persia a new chance to shine again.
Today’s leak leaves little doubt about the believability since it comes directly from Ubisoft. With banners already being ready it also points towards the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake releasing not too far off either.
The timing gets even more peculiar since today a new Ubisoft Forward digital showcase event is taking place. We expect to witness the formal announcement of the remake later today.
