Ubisoft thought about making Far Cry 3.5

Would you have taken Far Cry 3.5 over Far Cry 4? It could've happened, obviously with the upcoming release of Far Cry 4 — it didn't.

Executive Producer Dan Hay took to Ubisoft's Blog to talk about the development of Far Cry 4 and why it wasn't Far Cry 3.5 (wasn't Blood Dragon more than enough as a 3.5 spin-off thing?).

“We definitely had the option of making a 3.5, of making a choice to just stay in the same location with the same characters,” Hay says. “We talked about the idea of taking Jason’s story and growing it, maybe figuring out a way to bring Vaas back. And very quickly we realized that it wasn’t going to be a thing that we wanted to do. So we stopped that conversation and said, that’s the end of the 3.5 conversation – which lasted probably about four days.”

Ending the conversation on the fourth day is fitting, considering that it's Far Cry 4 we are seeing on the 18th of November. Who knows what would have happened had they concluded their conversation on Far Cry 3.5 after only three and a half days.

Just why did they settle on Far Cry 4? Hay had a very strong desire to “ride an elephant, and I want to be able to smash it through a fortress." That might not be the official reason, but it just might be one of the best reasons (because it's awesome).

Far Cry 4 is releasing on November 18 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
