Ubisoft to undergo ‘structural shift’ after sexual misconduct allegations

An important step

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has shared an open letter about his plans to improve the company’s workplace environment in a meaningful way. The move comes after allegations by past workers and others who have shared traumatic and horrific experiences with company personnel.

The gaming industry is going through dark days with experiencing their very own ‘Me Too’ moment where countless people have opened up about various sexual abuse experiences. The biggest fighting game tournament had their reckoning by canceling this year’s event altogether after allegations against its former president came to light.

Another high-profile place where several accusations originated from was Ubisoft. The gigantic global publisher and developer of some of the biggest names in gaming apparently was a place where sexual misconduct happened.

We are not looking for a quick fix, but rather a structural shift at Ubisoft that fully aligns with our values – values that do not tolerate toxic behaviors and where everyone feels safe to speak out. We must do everything we can to ensure no one is in these situations ever again. With this in mind, I also am putting in place a series of initiatives that will serve as a roadmap as we listen, learn, and act. I will need everyone to work together to build and implement them so that respect for others remains one of the pillars of Ubisoft’s culture.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has now categorically condemned any type of harassing or disrespectful behavior in his company. And to immediately bring change he has outlined plans to bring meaningful and lasting change.

It’s a good sign that Ubisoft is taking the allegations of victims who had to experience despicable treatment by Ubisoft workers very seriously. There is no excuse for sexual harassment in any shape or form, but it seems that people in power need to be kept in check for this to be secured if the Me Too movement across all walks of life has shown anything to us. This is an important first step towards that goal.
