Hope those of you who managed to snag one of Bethesda's extremely limited Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Editions have a phone that can fit inside of it.
With all the excitement surrounding the idea of a real-life Pip-Boy replica, I'm guessing not a lot of people thought about the size of the phone it'd be able to fit inside. I know it definitely slipped my mind, but thankfully Bethesda has provided some more specifics.
According to Bethesda, the Pip-Boy "will have foam inserts that fit iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5, and Samsung Galaxy 4." Though Bethesda confirms that you "should be able to fit most other popular smartphone devices" inside the replica using the customizable foam insert, they explicitly state that "any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device." That means those of you who own an iPhone 6+ or Samsung Galaxy Note are out of luck.
Bethesda notes that owners of these larger devices will still be able to run the Fallout 4 companion app, but the immersion you may experience by running it inside of this replica Pip-Boy will be lost.
So if you purchased the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition in hopes of creating an authentic Fallout experience with your needlessly large smartphone, looks like your out of luck. Or maybe you aren't — with the Pip-Boy Edition just about sold out everywhere, and no plans to restock inventory, I'm sure you can resell it on sites like eBay and get at least double the price… ya know, if you wanna be that guy.
