Earlier in the year, one of the first arrests was made against a Lizard Squad team member. Vinnie Omari was allegedly part of the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against large online gaming networks (PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE).
While the UK based 22-year-old Omari was released on bail until March 10, an alleged team mate of his was not so lucky.
An unnamed 18-year-old male has been arrested in the UK and is accused of unauthorized access to computer material (following the holiday DDoS attacks on PSN and Xbox Live) and knowingly providing false information to law enforcement agencies in the US. This arrest has been deemed as "significant" (by Peter Goodman, the national policing lead for cyber security at the Association of Police Officers) in the attempt at beginning the dismantling of Lizard Squad.
Two arrests in the case of DDoSing may put somewhat of a dent in the team making the attacks, but it doesn't mean the investigation is complete. Craig Jones, head of the Cyber Crime Unit at Serocu told the BBC that "We [Cyber Crime Unit at Serocu] are still at the early stages of the investigation and there is still much work to be done. We will continue to work closely with the FBI to identify those who commit offenses and hold them to account."
