Ultima Online, my beloved MMO from which I have some fond memories of back in the day, is looking for your support on Steam Greenlight.
Developed by the legendary Richard Garriot and his team at Origin Systems, and released in September 1997, Ultima Online was one of the first major massively multiplayer online games. It paved the way for many of today's MMOs that we know and enjoy today.
Like me, I'm sure many of you have the fondest of memories of Ultima Online, but unfortunately age has started to take its toll on the classic game. Its mechanics and graphics are simply outdated, though it remains one of the most in-depth MMOs available on the market. Because of that, I'm anxiously looking forward to seeing this game be Greenlit.
Over the years, development of Ultima Online has shifted through multiple hands, but as of February 2014, it was transferred from Mythic to the newly-made Broadsword Online Games. Electronic Arts is continuing to provide billing and account services through Origin, but Broadsword Online Games will work with EA's Mythic Entertainment to operate, support and develop Ultima Online on EA's behalf.
Ultima Online on Steam will be free to download; however, there is a monthly subscription cost associated with it. The good news is that new accounts will receive a 14 day trial period with no credit card information required.
