Ultraviolent fast-paced FPS Ultrakill out now on PC

Character Action First Person Shooter

New Blood Interactive is at it again with yet another standout indie first-person shooter. Ultrakill is out now on Steam Early Access and does its name justice by being an all-out gorefest that focuses on brutal and fast-paced action. Check out the most recent trailer for it here!

It sure is a good time for FPS fans. Prodeus is just around the corner but thankfully, there’s a great new indie FPS that’s available right now. Developed by indie game creator Arsi “Hakita” Patala, Ultrakill does one thing and one thing exceptionally well. Running and shooting. The title is the name of the game in more than just one way in that players can look forward to the good old days of no-nonsense FPS goodness from the likes of Quake mixed with the scoring system of skill-based action titles.

But unlike other retro first-person shooters, Ultrakill takes also inspiration from the Devil May Cry series. It sounds quite weird at first since FPS games traditionally are a very different beast compared to Character Action titles like DMC.

Mankind has gone extinct and the only beings left on earth are machines fueled by blood.
But now that blood is starting to run out on the surface…
Machines are racing to the depths of Hell in search of more.

In the end, it works surprisingly well and even gels perfectly well with the fast movement and gore mechanics. You see, there’s a good reason to act quickly and shower the levels of the game in your enemies’ blood since exactly that, blood, also functions as the main health pickup mechanic.

New Blood Interactive has stealthily risen up the ranks of indie publishers and carved itself a special niche by focusing on first-person games that take heavy cues from genre giants of yore. After Dusk who brought back Quake’s style, Amid Evil which is a successor to Heretic, and Gloomwood which is a Thief-inspired endeavor, Ultrakill is arguably the most interesting and unique blend so far. With an insane 99% Positive User Review score on Steam, the gamble on genres looks to have worked out perfectly.

Ultrakill is available now on Steam Early Access for just $15.99.
