We've all done things we wish we could take back and right now, UNC senior point guard Joel Berry II is having one of those moments. After losing a round of NBA 2K18 to fellow Tar Heel teammate Theo Pinson and a team manager, Berry managed to break his right hand after punching a door in frustration. Coach Roy Williams said he got the news in a phone call from a trainer as he was driving to see his newborn grandson in Chapel Hill, and said to ESPN, "He did a silly thing."
He continued:
"That's what it was. One of his greatest characteristics is his competitiveness."
Pinson called the event "a freak accident" and said that prior to going to bed, Berry told him that he thought something was wrong with his hand. At the time, Berry didn't know it was anything serious, but now the initial prognosis will keep him out about four weeks.
UNC starts its season on Friday, November 10th against Northern Iowa, so it seems likely he will miss the opener. If he heals up well, a four-week timeline could place his return anywhere from the November 20th game at Stanford to the home game against Michigan on the 29th. Depending on the start the Tar Heels get off to, it could very well be the former.
NBA 2K18 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
