Uncharted movie gets new director, cast details, and start date

It's finally happening.

Unless someone dies or something incredibly horrible happens, the Uncharted movie will begin filming this month. After a decade of trying to make it happen with different directors and actors, Tom Holland will finally fill the shoes of the iconic PlayStation character.

After losing director Travis Knight last year, Venom director Ruben Fleischer will helm the video game adaptation with a March 5th, 2021 release date. The film will star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully. Variety is reporting Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle have joined the film as well in unknown roles.

DiscussingFilm is also reporting that Sophia Ali will play Uncharted 2 and Lost Legacy fan-favorite character Chloe Frazer. The film is supposed to be an origin story for Nathan Drake so it’s unclear if these will veer away from the stories in the games since Chloe and Drake don’t meet until the second game.

Wahlberg, who was supposed to play Drake years ago, spoke about his excitement for the Uncharted film in an interview with Collider.

“I start filming in about two weeks time. It’s exciting because, without giving too much away, it’s more of an origin story. Meeting them, and Nathan becoming Nathan. Sully and him meeting, trying to not only get over on each other, but also starting to partner up and develop that relationship. It’ll be very cool. It’s the first time I’m in a movie that’s a movie. I felt like when I was reading it, I was reading Indiana Jones or Thomas Crown Affair. It’s got these great elements of these heist movies and adventure movies like I’ve never been a part of.”
