The Uncharted movie, with all of its struggles since being just an idea, has both good new and bad news today. The good news: two new writers have hopped onboard to take a shot at the screenplay. The bad news: director Neil Burger has left the project to direct Summit Entertainment's Divergent.
The two writers are Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. They've written The Sixth Day, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and I, Spy, but since Uncharted is pretty much the video game version of the Nation Treasure movies, it helps that they've written both of the National Treasure films.
Originally, the Uncharted movie was going to star Mark Wahlberg and was going to be about him and his family of thieves — nothing like the game. The fan-favorite for the role of Nathan Drake is actor Nathan Fillion, who would be amazing as Drake. It's unknown whether the Wibberleys aren't going to be reworking the current script or penning their owns; let's hope it's their own.
As for the director, I guess a new search begins. There has to be someone out there that has a good vision for a movie with so much potential. Who do you think would be perfect to direct Uncharted?
