So, I just finished the incredibly long questline to unlock the weekly Crucible Bounties for Lord Shaxx in Destiny. For those unfamiliar, Year Two of Destiny saw the arrival of a weekly ritual experience for PvP players, similar to what PvE players have with the Nightfall. IT came in the form of Weekly Bounties for the Crucible, obtained from Lord Shaxx, but only after you reached Rank 3 with rep and completed the questline. Spoiler, the questline f*cking sucks.
It's long, it's repetitive, and it's incredibly frustrating. Right now, it's probably the worst thing you can do in the game, and the rewards — on part with the weekly Nightfall strikes — aren't worth the challenge (especially after Bungie admitted to a bug in Crucible rewards). In short, the questline — which you can see here — involved winning matches in various Crucible game modes, reaching a certain number of kills with specific weapons, and in some cases combining the both. It's that last bit that sucks, mostly because you can't control the skill of the players on your team. And when you're forced to use a weapon you might not be as skilled with, it makes things more difficult. Needless to say, the entire questline is awful. Thankfully, Bungie is fixing it — and it sounds like they are making it easier.
As stated by senior designer Leif Johansen:
"With The Taken King, we introduced a new Questline for the Crucible called “Crucible Forged.” Our goals with the Questline were to onboard players that may be intimidated by PvP into new games modes and playstyles. In hindsight, it felt really freakin’ long (like, glacially long), the rewards weren’t good enough for the effort, and only awarding progress on winning in certain steps led to frustration and quitting."
Johansen confirmed that, moving forward, the questline will be shorter. "Completing matches will give you progress in most cases, and we'll be giving you more freedom to choose how youc omplete it."
"Instead of having to complete one Quest at a time, you can complete multiple Quests all at once," Johansen explained. "This should enable you to progress through many steps at once, and you should have an easier time pairing up with friends to finish it."
Unfortunately, the update to the questline won't arrive until "before Thanksgiving, if all goes well." So if you've yet to complete the Lord Shaxx "Crucible Forged" questline, might as well wait for it to get easier. Because as someone who just finished it, damn did it suck.
I hope Bungie plans on rewarding those of us who painfully chugged through the entire questline.
