Upcoming Mario Kart 8 update to add three free Mercedes-Benz cars

An update to Mario Kart 8, which is slated to arrive on August 27, will add three new in-game Mercedes-Benz cars for free, Nintendo announced today.

The three new cars are the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s, and the Silver Arrow of the 1930s. I don't know much anything about cars, but judging by the images they sure do look nice. The GLA model comes with special wheel options, while all three can be customized with various wheels and gliders in game.

Nintendo and Mercedes-Benz will also be hosting an online worldwide "Mercedes Cup" tournament between August 27 and September 23.

In addition to the free cars, the Mario Kart 8 update will also add a variety of new features to enhance the gameplay experience including the option to display the course map on the TV screen during races; rearranging the order of the post-race menu to have "Next Race" ahead of "Watch Highlight Reel"; the game's ability to remember the most recent kart options; the ability to change options of other players' Mario Kart TV downloaded highlight reels; an added score screen; and improved stability of the online connection.
