Upcoming Zelda title will be ‘more than just a single player experience’

Producer Eiji Aonuma addressed the future of The Legend of Zelda in a recent interview with GameInformer, hinting that multiplayer will come to the series in some capacity.

“The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series,” he said, “but they’ve changed because of the hardware and second screen on your GamePad.

“Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad. When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.”

With mash-up title Hyrule Warriors releasing September 26, it’s a reasonable assumption that Aonuma’s multiplayer vision will be fleshed out in the Zelda title releasing in 2015 which was revealed during Nintendo’s E3 event.

Aonuma has also stated that he is open to a playable female character being added to the next Zelda title, but wants to see a connection be made between women and the franchise—a connection to be made by women buying Hyrule Warriors.
