There seems to have been some misunderstanding with SEGA's upcoming re-release of Castle of Illusion. Earlier today, it was reported that the HD remake of the 1990 side-scroller would be a PlayStation 3 exclusive; this was according to a blog post from Sony with an accompanying trailer. Of course, this also went against all of the previous rumors, which even included digital box art of the game for XBLA.
SEGA has since set the record state with a blog post of their own, confirming Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will be available worldwide for digital download on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC in summer 2013.
Development of Castle of Illusion is being handled by SEGA Studios Australia. It's a "complete re-imagining" of the original "completely rebuilt from the ground up." Although fans will still be able to enjoy the original storyline which sees Mickey attempt to save Minnie from the evil witch Mizrabel, Castle of Illusion will feature all-new HD visuals and new gameplay mechanics.
“The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a SEGA classic. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation,” said Chris Olson, vice president of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Mickey is back and he looks fantastic."
SEGA released another trailer, this time featuring all of the platforms. There is also a bunch of new screenshots.
