UPDATE: New Need for Speed will not require an online connection to play

UPDATE: The Facebook message was since taken down, and we were told by PR that it was factually incorrect. The new Need for Speed will indeed require an online internet connection.

Need for Speed made its big debut at EA's press conference on Monday, showing gamers not only how it plans to reboot the series, and bring back those awesome/cheesy live action cutscenes, but also just how gorgeous the game is going to be. What we didn't know was whether the game required an always-online connection.

Thanks to a recent tip that was sent to us by Twitter user Max Meyer, the official Need for Speed Facebook page answered this by stating "You can play the single player campaign offline, you only need to be online if you want to experience the social component."
