**UPDATED** Destiny’s microtransactions could soon include ammo packs

Cha-Ching!! Get your heavy ammo

UPDATE

Activision has replied to Game Informer regarding the original story of adding ammo pack micro transactions to Destiny. In an email response, an Activision representative simply stated "We're not doing that". Apparently, this rumor was originally tossed around with the two rumors in the original story from last year. It was quickly tossed out, however, as Activision decided to go a different route. We'll see if this really is true, or just another deflection statement as time goes on.

ORIGINAL STORY

According to new rumors, Bungie will soon expand Destiny's microtransaction system to include selling heavy ammo packs for real cash.

Although we don't have any exact costs yet, VG247 is citing a source close to the situation that they will be included soon.  They also note it's the same source which initially revealed to them that microtransactions would be included in Destiny to begin with as well as House of Wolves having no raid. Obviously, both these turned out to be true.

Microtransactions arrived in Destiny back in October 2015, giving players the to purchase Silver with real cash. This sole purpose of this new in-game currency was to let your players dance with new emotes, as well as a few other items that didn't necessarily impact gameplay. Keep in mind, this was after Bungie had specifially denied micro transactions stating they had no place in the game. Their cost ranged anywhere from $5 to $50 for various amounts.

Soon after, Bungie made level boost packs available for purchase. At a cost of $30, you were able to jump right into the Taken King DLC at level 25 opposed to grinding.

Previously, none of Destiny's microtransactions had much impact on gameplay or balance; however, the addition of ammo packs to the microtransaction system will have an effect, albeit a limited one. As long as Bungie doesn't change any of the other ways to acquire ammo, I don't have a problem with the addition of ammo packs as microtransactions.  It's a microtransaction that will have little impact on actual game balance, and only really effects those who purchase it (who don't want to waste time grinding). Hours of grinding will be removed and, with the feeling of frustration gone, players will stick around longer.

We need to see what the price of the packs are going to be. I hope this is true, I really do. As someone who was excited about Destiny and played the hell out of it when it released, I hope Bungie doesn't price itself out of its own market again. With Destiny 2 most likely delayed out of this year, the game needs as much good PR as it can get.
