As if the free shipping, 20% off new video games, Amazon Video and the countless other stuff Amazon throws at their Prime members wasn't enough, now they are giving Overwatch players another free round of loot boxes, five to be exact.
A month or two ago, Twitch (an Amazon company) started a partnership with Blizzard, by giving a legendary Overwatch loot box to anyone who was a Twitch "Prime" member. This box was guaranteed to have at least one legendary skin for one of the then 24 characters (25 now, with Doomfist). Apparently, that was not just a one-and-done deal, starting next week on August 10th and lasting through September 10, Overwatch players who are also Twitch Prime members (Amazon Prime members are already Twitch Prime member), can receive a redeemable code for five free loot boxes, as well as five more in October.
With the latest update to Overwatch, players are now experiencing fewer duplicates when opening loot boxes, so this is the perfect time to redeem boxes and have a better chance at receiving a few legendary skins you don't already own. Just keep in mind, we don't know what happens if you try and redeem these during the Summer Event, odds are, you won't get Summer Event boxes. The redemption code will probably redeem standard loot boxes.
I've reached out to Blizzard and Twitch to get an answer to that last question, we'll update the post if we get a response.
[Update] Dustin Blackwell, Blizzard's PR Representative for Overwatch, responded to my inquiry about whether or not loot boxes redeemed via the Twitch giveaway could be used to get Summer Event boxes.
Both the Gold Loot Box and five free are non-event loot boxes. – Dustin Blackwell
As I expected, the loot boxes will not be redeemable for Summer event boxes.
