Many would question Valve's motivation's for entering the virtual reality market, but their fearless leader Gabe Newell has made it expressley clear: they will be working on VR games. Three to be exact. And not bite-sized demos and experiences; full games. In an interview with Eurogamer, Newell stated the following:
“One of the questions you might be asking is ‘Why in the world would you be making hardware? What we can do now is we can be designing hardware at the same time that we’re designing software.”
Newell and Valve belive that great software relies on great hardware, and therefore they want to be in control of both. Newell continues, likening the situation to Nintendo:
“This is something that Miyamoto has always had. He’s had the ability to think about what the input device is and design a system while he designs games. Our sense is that this will actually allow us to build much better entertainment experiences for people.”
The games are apparently running in the Source 2 and Unity engines, and no, we cannot confirm if these titles are Half Life 3 episodes 1, 2 and 3. Although we can't not confirm as well, so make of that what you will.
