Valve’s former Steam Market Economist takes control of Greece’s finances

The former overseer of Valve's Steam Market has moved forward on his mission to take over the world. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the gentleman certainly has moved up in the scheme of things.

Yanis Varoufakis was hired in 2012 by Vavle to research the digital economies within the communities on Steam (but a leading economist before then). In 2013 Varoufakis noted that he was only a private consultant at Valve — we know the truth, he was the one behind the hat trade and he's bringing the booming industry to Greece (that's a Team Fortress joke if you didn't get it)!

In his own words Varoufakis says that Valve hired him "to forge narratives and empirical knowledge that (a) transcend the border separating the 'real' from the digital economies, and (b) bring together lessons from the political economy of our gamers' economies and from studying Valve's very special (and fascinating) internal management structure."

Confirmed by Sky News political editor Faisal Islam, Varoufakis is Greece's new finance minister. Greece has been facing a bit of turmoil when it comes to funds – basically they're in a lot of debt. Varoufakis was born in Greece, so, it's not a stretch to believe that he will use his skills from the Steam Marketplace and help out Greece.

I'm thinking Greek Trading Cards.
