Valve Steam Machine to be at GDC with finalized controller and details

It's about time!

Yesterday we reported that rumors were suggesting that Valve is gearing up to start letting us in on where they are with the Steam Machine in about two months during GDC. It turns out that those rumors are proving to be true.

In our previous article, a site called NotOperator revealed that "unnamed" sources informed them that the Steam Machine would be hitting GDC and that Valve has finalized the controller design, those sources might have a name now.

Multiple news publications have since released the confirmation that: 1,) Valve is gearing up for GDC and 2.) the Steam Machine's controller design has been finalized. Gamasutra reached out to Valve looking for an explanation on where the company stood on Dev Days (or the lack of this years Dev Days) the reply from a Valve representative was as follows:

"Steam Dev Days was a great way to brief a large number of Steam developers…This year our focus will be a bit different, so we are planning a larger than usual presence at GDC. So, there will not be a Steam Dev Days this year, but we will certainly consider doing it again in the future."

This statement from Valve supports the statement that the company would have a presence at GDC, a 'larger than usual presence.' When it comes to the finalization of the controller comes from Origin PC CEO Kevin Wasielewski and GameSpot. During CES Wasielewski sat down with the site to offer a little insight on just where Valve is with the Steam Machine:

"At GDC, they're going to have more information and we'll be there. That's the official stuff we can say. They came out with the controller, then they got some user feedback, and they had to revamp it; they got some more user feedback and had to revamp it again. So they went through that like three or four times. And now their controller is finalized. So now they're going to production and at GDC is when they're going to announce more stuff."

There you have it folks, the confirmation that we will be hearing about the Steam Machine during GDC.
