Christmas is coming early for fans of vanilla World of Warcraft as the team behind the Nostalrius server is relaunching the project later this month.
Now under the name “Elysium,” the private servers will launch on December 17 at 12pm EST. The move basically shares the existing Nostalrius code with current legacy project, Elysium.
It’s a bit of a surprise to see Nostalrius come back from the dead like this. Blizzard initially served a cease and desist order to bring the server down, which led to immense pushback from the private server’s player base and even an incredible farewell moment.
Over the past year, Blizzard and the Nostalrius team had been in talks about potentially bringing legacy servers on an official capacity, which Blizzard was reportedly open to the idea, but there's been no movement on the issue since.
