Vanillaware’s sci-fi action-adventure 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim out September

A small two week delay

Sega has announced the revised release date for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. The gorgeous hand-painted action-adventure game by legendary Japanese creators at Vanillaware is now coming out on September 22nd exclusively on PlayStation 4. Check out the announcement trailer for the western release here!

Vanillaware is finally bringing a new game to western audiences with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. It has been seven years since the studio’s last title Dragon’s Crown came out. In fact, while the brawler-RPG did get a PS4 remaster de facto Vanillaware hasn’t released a new game since 2013. And that was for the PlayStation 3.

As such, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a big deal. The game already launched in Japan last year and is finally becoming readily available for the rest of the world this September. In Vanillaware fashion, it’s the insanely good visuals that immediately strike you. The hand-painted goodness on offer here is just a joy to simply look at.

Uncover the truth and delve into a 2D sidescrolling adventure featuring gorgeous art and environments. Then, battle the kaiju in fast-paced, top-down combat. Customize the Sentinels with an arsenal of mechsuit weaponry, and fight to defend humanity!

Unlike Vanilaware’s past titles of the likes from Dragon’s Crown or Muramasa, the gameplay in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is split into two distinct portions. While the ‘adventure’ part of the game gives is portrayed in the beautiful art in a 2D plane and propels the narrative, the ‘action’ portion features top-town mech combat. The later part plays out in real-time but adds a tactical layer with a pause function.

The game was originally slated to come out on September 8th but not has been pushed a very small two weeks further to September 22nd. There’s one upside to this small delay though since English Voiceover will be available Day 1 as an update.
