Vigil, Gearbox Really Digging the Wii U

Developers seem to be taking a liking to the Wii U. Several interviews have shown that the console's tech and features have been very inviting for game makers to develop for. This certainly spells good news for Nintendo, who alienated the third-party developer with the Wii.

Darksiders II developer Vigil Games was vocal about the potential it saw in the Wii U. In a feature on Game Informer, David Adams and Colin Bonstead of Vigil expressed their delight with the system. According to Adams, after working with the Wii U dev kit, creating games around Nintendo's new hardware is a lot easier than the PlayStation 3 and "on par" with the Xbox 360. This is definitely great news, as ease in development is key in avoiding bugs and glitches in games.

Gearbox Software also had some delightful things to say about the Wii U. Brian Martel, the company's co-founder and chief creative officer, told IGN, "We like the system a lot; we think it's going to be a really cool stop-gap in between this generation and the next generation. We think it's really smart of Nintendo, and the fact that as a platform it's a lot more capable for hardcore first-person shooter-style gaming—for us that's fantastic."

Both developers have stated that they look forward to playing around with the game's controller and have listed it as one of the most interesting aspects of the Wii U. With Nintendo getting so much interest and attention from third-party devs, it's exciting to think about the potential software that will launch on the console. It's going to be especially interesting seeing how multi-platform titles take advantage of the Wii U's specs to differentiate themselves from their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts.
