Vixen cast as a series regular on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ with one major change

Rip Hunter's penchant for time-travel might offer up something new.

Vixen is slated to return to the CW/DC universe on 'Legends of Tomorrow', but with someone new donning the mantle.

This most recent season of 'Arrow', albeit receiving some very mixed reviews, did give fans a lot of new and exciting storylines involving cameos from fan-favorite characters we hadn't seen on the show before, namely the street wizard, John Constantine, and the champion of the animal kingdom, Mari McCabe, aka Vixen. Her first appearance was on the CW Seed in her own animated series, but voice actress, Megalyn Echikunwoke, portrayed her cartoon counterpart for her first live-action cameo.

Its been announced that the next season of Legends of Tomorrow will feature "a version" of Vixen. As it turns out, Echikunwoke's acting schedule is going to conflict with the shooting schedule for the next season of the show. As a result, the showrunners have found an elegant solution to the problem utilizing Rip Hunter's penchant for time-travel: recast her with a younger version.

The plan is to have the new team of Legends pull an earlier Vixen from the timeline, which means hiring a new actress to take her place, at least for the time being. Vixen's stint on 'Arrow' was very well received and in order to keep from disappointing fans, the new story will allow for Echikunwoke's return if the opportunity presents itself. There's still no word on who the next Vixen will be, but we'll just have to keep our eyes peeled before the new roster of CW superhero shows kicks off this fall.
