Star Wars: The Last Jedi was by far the most anticipated film of 2017 for millions of people. The film would give us the next entry in the Skywalker saga, answering a number of burning questions and showing us an older Luke Skywalker who would train Rey in her journey to become a Jedi.
The film released yesterday and while it has been praised by critics for taking risks, delivering a worthy entry in the saga, and being an all-around well-made film, many fans are finding the film to be less than stellar. While the film has its admirers, it has some very vocal haters who fundamentally disagree with the way characters are portrayed, how some burning questions are answered, and more.
The people who are tearing the movie apart may be in the minority but they’re expressing their displeasure by giving the film a rotten audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, something that the critical disaster Justice League didn’t even get from fans.
Some are head over heels for the bold choices made by director Rian Johnson and are excited to see his trilogy and others are picking the movie apart on Twitter. The movie is on track to have an incredible opening weekend as expected so the fan reaction may not damage it all that much financially. The film opened to an incredible $165 million worldwide opening on Thursday night and all of Friday and is expected to make well over $200 million by the end of the weekend.
