Walking Dead creator Kirkman’s next show is the demonic Outcast

Given the massive and zeitgeist influencing success of AMC’s The Walking Dead, it was a no brainer that any other project to come out of Robert Kirkman was going to be prime for picking up as another TV series. And that’s exactly what’s happening with Outcast, which will be coming to Cinemax next year.

Even though the comic series itself is little more than a year old, the tale of Kyle Barnes, a Southerner who has been mixed up with demonic possession his whole life is a fairly gripping story already. Unlike Walking Dead, Kirkman describes Outcast as having a clear start and stop in mind when he began writing it. Blending Southern Gothic and possession horror, the series is pretty enthralling, especially for fans of Preacher, Felix Castor or Hellblazer.

At their panel for NYCC, Kirkman commented,"I love the exorcism subgenre or horror, I think it's a lot of fun, and I think there's a lot of ground to break in that genre," he continued by explaining that most movies in this category tended to follow a similar pattern, "and then at the end, the demon's out, job's done…but that's not done, the demon's just going to possess someone else…Outcast looks for explanations and solutions to demonic possession.”

Outcast will be airing next year on Cinemax, but the first two trade volumes for the comic are already available, so there’s time enough to prime yourself for your next favorite horror show.
