Darkwood looks like a survival horror experience like no other. Currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, Darkwood combines roguelike survival horror gameplay with a top-down perspective — and it looks terrifying.
Darkwood takes place in a mysterious forest in an alternate reality of eastern Europe, some time at the end of the 20th century. Honestly, it looks like a twisted version of where Snow White gets lost. With no memory of how you got there, you don't know whether you're losing your sanity or are in a nightmare. Needless to say, something is terribly wrong with the forest and almost everything and everyone around you.
The game's Indiegogo campaign describes Darkwood as "a top-down, oldschool, sandbox survival horror set in a procedurally generated, open world. It features RPG and roguelike elements, with intense combat and an eerie atmosphere."
Darkwoode has permadeath, where only some things carry on to your next incarnation; exploration of a twisted atmosphere; perks and abilities; a crafting system that lets you create items, build barricades and traps, and improve your gear; and combat that fills your with tension. It's "oldschool hard," and it will require planning, tactical thinking, and resource management.
To sum it all up, Darkwood looks like a mindf*ck. Just watch the pre-alpha gameplay trailer to see what's in store for you. To help fund Darkwood, visit its Indiegogo campaign page HERE.
