War for the Planet of the Apes will be the third film in the rebooted Planet of the Apes series which gives us a darker, alternate universe of apes taking over the planet. It sounds goofy as hell, but in reality it is quite deep both from the human side and the side of the apes.
The films are packed with action between both sides as they struggle for control and it only makes sense that a video game would be created in this universe, right? Well Andy Serkis thinks so! At New York Comic-Con, the actor who plays Cesar in the Planet of the Apes films revealed that the upcoming third installment in the movie series will also have a full fledged video game releasing alongside it.
Serkis didn't give much away about the game but did say it won't be just a retelling of the new film, it'll be a "companion piece". "I don't think it's ever been done before," Serkis said. "We created it at the Imaginarium, which is my studio. Without giving too much away about it, it's not like a first-person shooter. It feels like an interactive movie. And that's all I can say other than that it will be coming out around the same time as the movie."
"It's a companion piece, it's not based on the characters from this movie," Serkis added.
War for the Planet of the Apes recently got a teaser trailer that features an intense but vague speech from one of the characters in the film. War for the Planet of the Apes is set to release on July 14th, 2017 with the video game tie-in sometime around then as well.
