Amidst the negative reviews surrounding the movie, Variety has projected that Warcraft faces a steep uphill climb at the box office on the film's opening weekend. That weekend is set to have The Conjuring 2 (the projected winner), Now You See Me 2 as well as the second weekend of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
Warcraft's total budget was $160 million, so given that the movie is expected to earn only $25 million in the US on its opening weekend, it's quite a disappointing projection. Currently, Warcraft holds a paltry Metacritic score of 37 and an even worse 21% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Warcraft is expected to perform better internationally as Universal has stated that North America is viewed as being a part of a much larger whole instead of the center of the film's financial prospects.
Keep in mind that these are just projections and not an absolute, so things could very well change. However, don't expect those critic scores to suddenly become radically different.
