Wargaming CEO: Xbox Live certification process ‘totally unacceptable’ for free-to-play

We've heard it time and time again: the certification process on Xbox Live to update titles is unnecessarily long and is a hassle for content updates. Now, Wargaming's CEO Victor Kislyi, who is bringing the popular MMO World of Tanks to the Xbox 360, has reinforced that sentiment.

Speaking with Polygon at PAX Australia, Kislyi voiced his honest assessment of Xbox Live's certification process.

"The good thing is with online games, sometimes if you screw up, you can do frequent updates," said Kislyi. "But one of the biggest challenges with Microsoft was the frequency of updates because the QA process and certification process takes an extremely long time. Totally unacceptable for a meaningful free-to-play. We are working with them to do quicker updates."

Later this year. Wargaming is bringing World of Tanks to the Xbox 360. It's good that Wargaming is working closely with Microsoft to rectify the problem. I don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of free-to-play games and MMOs are coming to the PS4 instead of the Xbox One. Hopefully the work that Wargaming and Microsoft do to speed up the process will carry over to other games and developers. However, when asked if that could be the case, Kislyi said, "We will see, there is a lot of work on the technically side and on the administrative side which should resolve in the acceptable quality of the product, including updates of the product including speed and rates. So we will see."

World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition is currently in beta, and players interested in signing up for the beta can do so at the official website.
