Bigben Interactive has released the first trailer for Warhammer: Chaosbane, showing real gameplay for the first time. The hack and slash action-RPG set in the Warhammer universe was first unveiled in June but only now are we getting more than just screenshots. Check out the trailer!
Developed by French game studio Eko Software, Warhammer: Chaosbane is very reminiscing of classic hack and slash games à la Diablo. From a top-down perspective, players can select a hero of their choosing and decimate all unfortunate ghouls and orcs in their path. It’s a pretty well-known action-RPG genre. That doesn’t change the fact that Warhammer games have not been that much represented in the genre however, so Chaosbane is somewhat unique in that regard.
Games set in the Warhammer universe are a dime a dozen for a while now, offering gaming experiences in a wide range of genres. First-Person Shooter, Turn-Based Strategy, even Sport and Pirating games exist which use the popular IP!
For folks who aren’t into the expansive world of Warhammer, we can very roughly split the gaming incarnation of the franchise into Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K. The later being more sci-fi. Chaosbane is firmly set in the Warhammer Fantasy world and thus focuses a lot on magic, melee and monsters.
Today’s First Look Developer Commentary video shows an early look at exactly that. We get to witness fast-paced, real-time action in moody dungeons. Typical for the genre, we also learn that different character types are present. Two of these are shown in the video. A hard-hitting close-quarters melee knight and a magic user who casts spells from a safe distance.
Warhammer: Chaosbane will include easy drop-in drop-out co-op and aims to deliver a diverse experience by mixing and matching different play styles and player counts. Pretty great stuff.
There’s still no definitive release date as of yet but we know that Warhammer: Chaosbane will come out in 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
