Warlords of Draenor could bring World of Warcraft subscription base to 8.8 million

Hopefully Warlords pulls through

Last we heard, World of Warcraft was somewhere around 7.8 million subscribers — checking Statista, it looks like it WoW might have somewhere around 7.4 million subscribers (although the accuracy of that report is skeptical at best – I trust the first report).

On November 13th, we will see the launch of the newest expansion, Warlords of Draenor. Will Warlords up the subscription base for World of Warcraft?

Quite possibly. Estimates from SuperData report that subscriptions could go up by 600,000 subscribers – putting their base at 8.2 million players by the end of the year. The SuperData reports fell in line with Blizzard's own reports on the potential growth that Warlords of Draenor can bring. The expansion itself boasts an almost 'Vanilla-WoW' experience — meaning it bring World of Warcraft back to its roots. Somewhere between World of Warcraft with no expansions and Burning Crusade. This alone might be what is tempting players to come back, as well as the facelift the character skins received.

World of Warcraft hit an all time low during the last expansion, Mists of Pandaria. As a past WoW player, I'd love to see WoW make a come-back and will certainly be using the free week they offered to time lapsed players.
